In September 2022, the very first Mayyil branch — originally known as Beit El Zaytoun – On the Go — opened in Knightsbridge, just steps away from the iconic Harrods.
Founded by Lebanese entrepreneur Ayman Assi, Mayyil was born from the success of its sister restaurant Beit El Zaytoun, famous for authentic Lebanese dining and warm hospitality. Ayman’s vision was simple yet powerful: to take authentic Lebanese street food and make it fast, affordable, and unforgettable for busy city life — without ever compromising on quality.
Knightsbridge, with its high footfall and prime location, became the perfect starting point. In a district where office workers and shoppers often searched for healthy and flavorful lunch options, Mayyil quickly became the go-to spot for shawarma in Knightsbridge and other Lebanese favorites. Its loyal crowd grew rapidly, from employees at Harrods, Apple, and Harvey Nichols to global tourists eager to enjoy fresh Lebanese food on the go.
After a year and a half of success in Knightsbridge, Mayyil brought its Lebanese street food to Notting Hill Gate — another vibrant London neighborhood with a very different energy.
Just minutes away from Portobello Market, the little green storefront became impossible to miss. The aroma of sizzling shawarma and crispy falafel drew in tourists and locals alike. For an area that offered limited quick food options — with McDonald’s being one of the only fast choices — Mayyil was a welcome addition. It quickly earned a place as one of the best Lebanese food spots in Notting Hill.
With two thriving locations in London, Mayyil set its sights beyond the UK.
Its first international branch launched in Al Ain, UAE, introducing authentic Lebanese shawarma, falafel, and mezze to a new audience. From the very first days, the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive — proof that Lebanese cuisine truly resonates across cultures.
Closer to home, a new London franchise in Kingston is set to open by late August to early September, offering even more Londoners a chance to experience fresh Lebanese street food.
But the most anticipated step is still ahead — Mayyil’s return to Lebanon, the home and heart of the concept. This opening will mark a full-circle moment, bringing the brand’s journey back to where its flavors and inspiration began.
From Knightsbridge to Notting Hill, London to Al Ain, and soon, Lebanon, Mayyil continues its mission to share Lebanese food culture with the world. Whether you’re grabbing a quick lunch, exploring a local market, or discovering a new city, Mayyil promises flavor, freshness, and the warm heart of Lebanon in every bite.
